Lviv schools to start academic year in August due to potential power cuts

This year, school will start in Lviv 2 weeks earlier – on August 19, as the the city is bracing itself for longer power outages this winter, said the city mayor Andrii Sadovyi on his Telegram channel.

The move will help “to ensure a regular school year’, added Sadovyi.

Lviv officials also consider turning schools into ‘invincibility’ shelters offering power in cold months if the city deals with rough power cuts.

Winter holidays are scheduled to start on December 21. If the power grid issues worsen, schools will be able to extend winter holidays, with special classes set up for kids who have 2 working parents.
