Ukraine and Portugal started negotiations on security agreement

On April 24, Ukraine and Portugal began work on a draft agreement on security guarantees and developed a schedule for further negotiations.
During the negotiations, the parties paid special attention to the expectations from the inaugural Peace Summit in Switzerland, as well as the important role of Portugal in the implementation of the Ukrainian peace formula and the involvement of the countries of the Global South in this process.
Ukraine has already concluded nine bilateral security agreements with Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland and Latvia. These agreements are signed to implement the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine.
On July 12, at the NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 countries agreed on a joint declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine.The document emphasizes that the leaders reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the strategic goal of maintaining a free, independent, democratic and sovereign Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
The G7 leaders noted that other countries wishing to contribute to these efforts can join the Declaration at any time.
