Ukraine marks Vyshyvanka Day

On the third Thursday of May, Ukrainians celebrate Vyshyvanka Day – the day of traditional embroidered clothes.
The idea of Vyshyvanka Day was suggested in 2006 by Lesia Voroniuk, then a student of Chernivtsi University.
The day of celebration was intentionally set on a weekday and not in the weekend to emphasise that the vyshyvanka is ‘a component of the life and culture of Ukrainians, and not an ancient artifact’.
On Vyshyvanka Day, people wear embroidered shirts and other elements of Ukrainian national clothing. On this day, numerous events and exhibitions dedicated to Ukrainian culture take place.
The popularity of the holiday is promoted by the idea of an embroidered shirt as a talisman and the popularization of information about regional embroidery traditions in Ukraine.
Military serviceman of the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine with the call sign “Paradox” is the crew commander of the American M113 armored personnel carrier. He is a master at using it and is constantly improving, because the legionnaire’s skills are tested every day in battle. You have to drive to the front lines, often under artillery fire and drone attacks.
