Electricity restrictions may last until September

Yurii Boiko, advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and a member of the supervisory board of Ukrenergo, expressed the opinion that restrictions on energy supply, which began on May 14, may last until August-September. In winter, electricity shortages will remain even at high temperatures.

‘If we talk about the restrictions that started a day ago, then we will have to live in these conditions, according to my estimates, until August. In August-September, I expect a slight improvement due to various factors,’ he said.

During this period, nuclear power plants will come out of the active phase of repairs, and there will be more solar generation in the power system. The load on the power system will also be reduced due to warm, but not too hot, weather.

Boiko explained that with the decrease in temperature in May, the population began to actively use heating devices. This led to a deficit in the energy system, even taking into account the active import of electricity.

This is the second stabilization point established under the Steel Front initiative in cooperation with the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The new facility, funded by Metinvest with an investment of UAH 21 million, is more secure than the first one thanks to its deeper location underground (over 6 meters) and additional fortifications.
