Journalists oppose draft law that hinders coverage of criminal cases

‘Mediaruk, which unites Ukrainian journalists and media called on the Verkhovna Rada not to vote for a draft law that would hinder the coverage of criminal cases related to the war.

‘We, journalists of news outlets that systematically cover judicial processes and investigations important to the society, see in this the risks of hindering our work, as well as the rights of our readers to receive reliable information about events in Ukraine,’ the statement says.

The Mediarukh community unites journalists from leading Ukrainian media, investigative journalists and experts from media public organizations.

‘We see in draft law 7033-d an attempt at censorship, which will significantly narrow the possibilities of public control over important judicial processes and will probably contribute to judicial arbitrariness. We call on the members of parliament to reject this draft law,’ Mediarukh concludes.
