Over 55,000 people missing in Ukraine – reports

At least 55,000 individuals are now registered as missing in Ukraine, with the majority being military personnel. The grim figure was revealed by Internal Affairs deputy minister Leonid Tymchenko, who though added that the statistics remains in constant flux as some missing persons are found either in captivity or tragically among the deceased.
“Most of the missing are soldiers,” saidTymchenko. “The numbers shift frequently. In some cases, we discover that individuals thought to be missing are actually in enemy captivity. Sadly, we also identify deceased individuals who were once reported missing.”
The National Police has taken steps to reunite families with their loved ones, collecting 751 DNA profiles from relatives of missing persons living abroad. The effort helped 107 Ukrainian families identify their missing relatives among the previously unidentified bodies.
Authorities conducted such DNA sample collection in countries including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Turkey. They now plan to expand the initiative to Switzerland.

On October 6, the Administrative Cassation Court within the Supreme Court of Ukraine continued hearing case No. 990/80/25, in which the fifth President and leader of the party “European Solidarity”, Petro Poroshenko, seeks to have Presidential Decree No. 81/2025 from February 12, 2025 — enacting sanctions by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) — declared illegal and annulled. The plaintiff claims the document was falsified and that the sanctions are a tool of political persecution of the opposition, contrary to international norms. Government representatives deny the allegations and insist their actions were lawful. Journalists of Bukvy were present at the hearing.
Rinat Akhmetov’s Metinvest Group has completed the construction of an upgraded underground NATO Role 2 hospital in one of the hottest sectors of the frontline. This is the second stabilization point established under the Steel Front initiative in cooperation with the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
