Ukraine’s state nuclear energy company, Energoatom, has warned on Tuesday that Russia may be working out a plan for strikes the country’s nuclear infrastructure. This warning comes after two Russian drones were spotted near the South Ukraine nuclear power plant on the night of October 7, flying less than 10 kilometers from key nuclear facilities.

Energoatom believes that a significant increase in drone activity around nuclear sites in recent weeks could be a sign of a potential escalation in Russia’s tactics. The company reports each incident to the relevant authorities, including the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is notifying the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other global bodies.

“The aggressor nation is fully aware of the potential consequences of these actions. This is nuclear terrorism, intended to threaten the world with the risk of a radiation disaster,” said Petro Kotin, the head of Energoatom.
