On Thursday, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree officially removing Andriy Kostin from the position of Prosecutor General. The document dryly says Zelensky commands to ‘dismiss Andriy Yevhenovych Kostin from the position of Prosecutor General.”

The Verkhovna Rada previously backed Kostin’s dismissal, with 255 MPs voting in favor. Kostin announced his exit on October 22 following corruption scandals involving the Medical and Social Expert Commission (MSEC) and various prosecutors.

Kostin admitted that Zelensky had to call up a National Security and Defense Council meeting to handle the “clearly immoral” issue of false disability claims among government officials. The official assured that investigations and criminal proceedings are underway at all levels of government.
