Poroshenko urges NATO to invite Ukraine as a response to Russian escalation

Former Ukrainian president and opposition leader Petro Poroshenko called on NATO to extend an invitation for Ukraine to join the Alliance during a session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Canada. He argued that such a move would be a decisive response to Russian aggression, including missile attacks.

“We can win this war without a single shot, just with one signature—an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO. This would change everything instantly. It would show that Putin cannot blackmail Ukraine or the democratic world,” he said.

Poroshenko stressed the tough stance on the issue would send a clear message to Russian president Vladimir Putin and will throw a wrench into his nuclear rhetoric.

Giving the credit to the Ukrainian Armed Forces who are now holding back  Russian and North Korean onslaught, the former president said NATO member states need to increase financial aid for Ukraine, setting their contributions at 0.25% of their GDP.

Poroshenko reaffirmed Ukraine is standing firm on such non-negotiable issues like  sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the operational capacity of its armed forces, which can be achieved only with the NATO involvement.

“An invitation to NATO is the right answer to Putin. It is also the most cost-effective option and a way to prevent a nuclear catastrophe,” he added.
