Police in Khmelnytskyi has found almost $190 thousand in cash in the apartments of two medical workers in Khmelnytskyi who allegedly started a scheme producing fake medical certificates that allowed draft-age men to claim a medical exemption to dodge military service.

According to the investigation, the duo asked $3,000- $8,000 for doctored medical records.

The doctor was caught red-handed while accepting another bribe. The raids of their homes helped police seized $182,000 and €6,500 in cash. Police also found handwritten records detailing clients, bribe amounts, and medical documents related to the scheme.

Both of the medical workers now face charges under Article 369-2 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (Abuse of Influence), which could result in up to eight years in prison and asset confiscation.

The investigation continues, as authorities are trying to tracde down others involved in the scheme, including those who paid for these falsified exemptions.
