Russian troops struck Kharkiv with powerful 500-kilogram bombs in the early hours of Friday, causing severe destruction and injuring dozens. The attack targeted two city districts, with significant damage reported across the city, according to Kharkiv Regional Governor Oleh Synehubov.

The assault was launched at around 3:30 am, hitting both the Saltivka and Shevchenkivskyi districts. In Saltivka, one bomb struck a high-rise building, injuring 25 people; five of them were hospitalized with moderate to minor injuries. Rescue crews evacuated 30 residents from the building, including four children, and are now actively clearing debris.

The explosion partially destroyed the building’s stairwell from the first to the third floors. The blast wave damaged nearby residential buildings, five cars, and even the entrances of a subway station.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, explosions rocked the city center. The bombs hit an open area, damaging historic buildings, public spaces, and residences. Another explosion struck close to residential areas, affecting at least six high-rise buildings, shops, pavilions, cars, and more metro entrances. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the district.

“These 500-kilogram bomb strikes are deliberate acts of terror by the enemy. We thank all emergency services and volunteers for saving lives and working tirelessly to handle the aftermath!” wrote the governor on Telegram.
