1 in 4 Ukrainians who have found refuge abroad after Feb.24 invasion plan to settle in European countries permanently, according to the finding of the German IFO Institute in Munich.

The survey results revealed that:

  • 35% of Ukrainian refugees want to return home once the war ends;
  • 4% said they plan to return soon, regardless of the situation;
  • 25% intend to stay abroad long-term;
  • 25% remain undecided;
  • 11% have already returned to Ukraine.

“While many Ukrainian refugees still wish to return to their homeland, the course of the war remains a decisive factor for the majority. The longer the conflict drags on, the more people envision a future outside Ukraine,” said the institute researcher Yvonne Giesing.
