Ukraine’s Security Service, SBU, has detained a Russian-recruited mole who was burrowed in one of the Volyn recruitment centers. The suspect was caught passing “critical information” on Ukrainian military positions to Russian intelligence, according to sources from the SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Approached by Russian operatives in September, the 30-year-old serviceman argeed to spy on the locations of various units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Security Service, and the National Police to Russian intelligence.
Driving around the region under the guise of work trips, the man collected the information on the locations of Ukrainian troops, radar stations and anti-aircraft missile systems, which would later help Russian troops pipoint their strikes in the region.
He sent the information hrough an anonymous chats on Telegram receiving payments in cryptocurrency for his ‘services’.
During the search, authorities seized his mobile phone containing evidence of his collaboration with Russia. The agent now faces charges of high treason. If convicted, he could receive up to 15 years in prison or a life sentence, along with confiscation of property.
