Hungary claims Ukraine’s oil blockade puts them in ‘no-win situation’

The chief aide of Hungary’s PM Viktor Orban sounded the alarm on Friday over Ukraine’s decision to block oil supplies to Hungary, arguing it can leave the country’s economy in a ‘dire’ situation. Gergely Gulyás accused Ukraine of ‘blackmailing’ Hungary and Slovakia after it blocked the transit of Russian ‘Lukoil’ fuel to these two countries, which he painted as as a “no-win situation.”

He was confident though Budapest was able to handle the situation.  “There is no need to panic as our reserves are guaranteed until September, but a solution must be found before then,” he stated.

Hungary has aided Ukraine in many ways by supplying electricity and providing shelter for Ukrainian refugees, said the official, adding his country has no plans to “use this situation to blackmail” Ukraine in return.
