Ukraine marks Armed Forces Day

On December 6, Ukraine marks the Day of the Armed Forces.

The Armed Forces Day was established by a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada in 1993. It is celebrated annually on December 6, the day of the adoption of the Law of Ukraine ‘On the Armed Forces of Ukraine’ in 1991.

The holiday coincides with the beginning of the First Winter Campaign of the Ukrainian People’s Republic army in 1919.

The Armed Forces Day became a special holiday in 2014, when the Russian-Ukrainian war began and Ukrainian military stood up to defend the country.

According to the Constitution, the army defends the country, its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability.

After February 24, 2022, according to the results of various opinion polls, the level of trust in the Armed Forces is over 90%.

In the world ranking according to the version of Global Fire Power, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently in 15th place among the most powerful armies in the world.
