Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant on “verge of blackout’ – Energy ministry

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant can be disconnected from 2 power transmission lines providing power for its operations after it was shelled on Monday, said Ukraine’s energy ministry

Currently, the nuclear sites relies on a single power line but it it is lost the plant will face a complete blackout, which can pose “potential radiation safety risks”.

Ukraine’s energy minister Herman Halushchenko said that energy workers will restore power  supplies to the plant as soon as the security situation allows it, adding that “only Ukraine’s control over the site can guarantee its safe operation”.
