Zelensky dismisses Zaluzhnyi, appoints Syrskyi

On February 8, President Volodymyr Zelensky officially dismissed General Valery Zaluzhnyi from the position of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He appointed for the position Oleksandr Syrskyi, the former commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The relevant decrees were published on the President’s office website.

In the evening of February 8, a meeting was held between the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhny; and President Volodymyr Zelensky. The general informed that after a serious conversation, the parties agreed on the need to change approaches and strategy.

Zaluzhnyi also expressed his gratitude to all those around him and added that he is proud of each and every one of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who protect the future of our children.
