On February 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz signed an agreement on security cooperation and long-term support between the countries.
The document was concluded within the framework of the Joint Declaration adopted by Ukraine and the members of the Group of Seven in Vilnius on July 12, 2023.
Zelensky noted that this is an unprecedented document, which establishes German support for Ukraine at the level of more than 7 billion euros for this year.
This includes weapons for which specific contracts already exist.
In particular, the agreement contains a clear position of Germany regarding sanctions against the aggressor, the tribunal, and frozen assets.
The agreement also provides for a mechanism for emergency consultations in the event of a possible future armed attack by Russia on Ukraine.
‘I thank Germany and the entire German people for their solidarity with our country and people, for all their support and help,’ president Zelensky wrote.
With this unprecedented agreement, Germany proves its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders.Germany intends to provide support to Ukraine as long as necessary to help Ukraine defend itself and restore territorial integrity.
The bilateral agreement is valid for ten years from the moment of its signing and clearly establishes the specific components of the security obligations that Germany has provided to Ukraine.
