Ukraine marks Day of Resistance to Occupation of Crimea

February 26 is the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
It is an annual designated day in Ukraine, commemorating a 2014 demonstration by thousands of Crimean Tatars outside the parliament of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
On February 20, 2014, the active armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine began. It was accompanied by the movement of Russian military units in Crimea and the Kerch Strait area.
In next few days, Russian special forces without insignia seized strategic sites across Crimea.
On March 16, 2014, a pseudo-referendum on the status of Crimea was held. The event, organized by the Russian Federation, was boycotted by the Crimean Tatars and other pro-Ukrainian inhabitants of the peninsula.
Ukraine and many other countries condemned the annexation and consider it to be a violation of the international law and agreements safeguarding the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
