Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskiy Resigns Over ‘Unexplained Assets’

Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskiy announced his resignation on Monday amidst a criminal investigation into his ‘unexplained assets’. The news came after prosecutors opened the case following a series of eyebrow-raising media reports.

Speaking to Interfax-Ukraine, Verbytskiy argued he was stepping down to “protect the reputation of the Prosecutor General’s Office.” He added, “I am conscious of how important the reputation of this state institution is, and I believe my decision is right.”

Verbytskiy, whose assets have been the subject of intense media scrutiny, said he is determined to protect his ‘honor and professional reputation, adding that he is waiting for the results of the investigation.
