Over a third of Russians back hypothetical nuclear strike on Ukraine, – latest survey

Source: Levada Center

A recent survey by the Levada-Center has revealed that more than a third of Russian citizens support the hypothetical use of nuclear weapons in the ongoing conflict against Ukraine.

The survey found that  10% of Russians ‘fully’ endorse a nuclear strike, while 1 in 4 of the respondents (24%) mostly find the nuclear escalation “justifiable”.

This marks a 5% increase in pro-nuclear sentiment over the past year, which is a record high since the Feb.24 invasion began.

Despite this, a majority of 52% oppose the use of nuclear weapons. This group is shrinking though – down from 56% in April 2023.

A whopping 77% of Russians remain in favor of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, though a half of the survey respondents said they support the idea of  peace talks.

In contrast,  16%  said they do not support the invasion while 8% remain undecided.

Notably, 66% of those surveyed believe that Russia is paying too high a price for its invasion of Ukraine.
