On Tuesday, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed legislation exempting energy equipment imports from customs duties and value-added tax (VAT).

According to Yaroslav Zheleznyak,  the two bills, No. 11258 and No. 11259, received strong support with 305 and 313 votes respectively.

This move is set to ease the financial burden on importing essential energy equipment as Ukraine is bracing for a challenging cold season amid growing power shortages.

The exemptions will apply to the imports of:

  1. Electric generators
  2. Equipment for wind and solar energy
  3. All batteries, except small ones.

Additionally, the legislation extends duty-free and VAT-free status to imports of equipment for reconnaissance and and demining.
