Ukraine’s energy ministry has said on Monday it will roll out re-scheduled power outages across the country as a response to extensive damage inflicted by a Russian missile and drone attack on August 26.

According to energy deputy minister Svetlana Hrynchuk, the Monday attack caused  substantial damage to the nation’s energy infrastructure.

To maintain the “integrity of the power grid”, the state energy company “Ukrenergo” has introduced emergency and scheduled power outages. This measure will remain in effect on August 27 and will continue “until the energy system is stabilized”.

Hrynchuk added that damage assessments are ongoing at all affected facilities, and repair crews have already begun emergency restoration work where feasible. She expressed cautious optimism that the power outage schedules could be “adjusted or lifted in the near future”.

“We are doing everything possible to quickly repair equipment, restore facilities, and stabilize the energy system,” Hrynchuk stated.
