Russian forces have captured 40% of the strategic town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, according to Andriy Polukhin, 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade spokesperson.

Polukhin said that Russian troops have gained control over a “portion of the town stretching up to the canal”, after their assault  has left the town heavily damaged.

The capture of Chasiv Yar could grant the Russian troops some “tactical advantage” of the higher ground overseeing the nearby towns of Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, and Kramatorsk, as well as the key logistical routes connecting them.

Polukhin also noted that brutal bombardments makes Chasiv Yar look like Bakhmut and Avdiivka, because the town has almost been reduced to rubble.
