Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bill raising  the excise tax on fuel,  “aligning it with the rates established in the European Union”. Customers will see the increase at the pump starting September 1.

The excise tax on gasoline has risen to €242.6 per 1,000 liters while diesel fuel tax will now stand at €177.6 per 1,000 liters.  The tax for liquefied gas, propane, or a propane-butane mix is now €148 per 1,000 liters.

The explanatory note to the bill says that the new excise taxes will help generate “greater revenue for the state budget”. It is projected that the new excise tax rates can bring an additional 1.604 billion hryvnias monthly.

The next phase of tax hike is  scheduled for January 1, 2025.
