Sumy and Poltava subject to power shut-offs after Russian drone attacks

The combination of high power demand and damage from recent Russian drone attacks have left 528 communite without power as of the morning of October 4 while  Sumy and Poltava regions were subject to power outages, according to Ukrenergo.

A drone strike on an energy facility in Sumy left thousands without powere. Although energy crews quickly restored power, they will need more time to fully repair the damage.  Planned power shut-offs will start at 10:25 am in both Sumy and Poltava regions.

Due to the ongoing conflict and other factors, power outages are in place in 528 towns and villages across Ukraine, including in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Kirovohrad regions.

Electricity consumption in Ukraine rose by 1.9% on October 4 compared to the previous day, according to data from 9:30 am.

Energy officials stressed that Ukraine’s power grid is still ‘recovering’ from nine massive attacks, and repairs are ongoing at various energy facilities. Peak consumption hours see the country dealing with a power deficit, so people are ugred to use energy-intensive appliances between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, when solar power stations operate most efficiently.
