Russian spy caught spying in Sumy and Donetsk

The Security Service of Ukraine, SBU, said on Wednesday they have arrested a Russian spy who was recrutied by the Russian FSB through a dating website. The suspect acted in Donetsk and Sumy regions, collecting intelligence on Ukrainian military positions and helping coordinate Russian airstrikes.
The 23-year-old native of Pokrovsk allegedly took the bait after he was reached by a FSB agent who posed as a possible match on a dating app. The conversation eventually saw the suspect carrying out spying tasks in Pokrovsk
The spy was later sent to Sumy region and told to snoop on Ukrainian air defense. He rented an apartment in the regional center, setting up an observation post equipped with a mobile phone for live streaming Russian airstrikes
The SBU detained the man and confiscated the phones used for intelligence-gathering.
The individual is now facing espionage charges under Article 114 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code that can land him behind bars for up to 12 years.
