Ukrainian authorities arrested an FSB agent who had provided Russian troops the coordinates for their missile strikes in Kharkiv.

After fleeing to Russia to reunite with his wife, a 37-year-old Kharkiv native was recruited by the FSB.

According to the investigation, his Russian handler Yevhen Konyakhin instructed him to return to Kharkiv in May 2023 to spy on the locations of Ukrainian military forces and their  training grounds.

Under the guise of business trips, the agent scouted defense positions and passed the gathered information to his Russian handlers. He also used casual conversations with acquiantances to probe bits of information  on troop positions, numbers, and weaponry.

SBU counterintelligence agents uncovered the spy, and detained him during a raid.

The suspect now faces charges of state treason under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
