A Egyptian national was in a group of Russian troops captured by Ukrainian soldiers at Kurakhove on Friday, according to Orest Drymalovskyi, spokesperson for the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade.

In his comments for the Ukraine’s telethon, he claimed that Ukrainian troops have witnessed several cases where desperate Russian soldiers left in the battlefield committed suicide.

“Over the past few days, several enemy combatants raised their hands and surrendered. Our paratroopers even had the chance to speak with a few of them,” Drymalovskyi added.

One of these captives turned out to be an Egyptian national. According to the spokesperson, the unfortunate mercenary had come to Russia to pursue higher education in IT but ended up on the frontline just a month after he received a Russian citizenship.

“This is quite an interesting character,” Drymalovskyi noted. “He speaks four languages—a polyglot. He’s going to live.”
