The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has arrested a man in the Donetsk region after he was found gathering intelligence to help Russian troops break through to the town of Myrnohrad.

A 25-year-old local resident was recruited by the enemy military intelligence through a common scheme where they track Ukrainian nationals posting pro-Russian comments on social media.

Under instructions from his handlers, the suspect covertly scouted the city, pinpointing the fortified positions and firing locations of Ukrainian troops. He later passed this intelligence over to his contact in the Russian National Guard.

He also collected  geolocations of the energy facilities that supply electricity to the Pokrovsk district.

The SBU traced the informant and arrested him during a counter-sabotage operation.

The suspect has been charged under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under conditions of martial law). He remains in custody without the option of bail and faces life imprisonment along with the confiscation of his property.
