On Thursday, Ukrainian intelligence has confirmed that North Korea has deployed its troops to the Kursk region of Russia, which marks the Asian country’s open involvment in the conflict.

According to Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, the North Korean troops are currently stationed at five military training grounds in the eastern part of Russia: Baranovskoye in Ussuriysk, Donguz in Ulan-Ude, Ekaterinoslavsky in Ekaterinoslavka, and the 248th and 249th sites in Knyaze-Volkonskoye and Sergeyivka, respectively. Their training is expected to go on for several weeks.

Intelligence assessments estimate that some 12,000 soldiers, including around 500 officers and three generals, are involved in this deployment. Their training is overseen by Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, Russia’s deputy defense minister.

The North Korean soldiers have been provided basic supplies like winter clothing, hygiene products, and a monthly stock of ’50 meters of toilet paper and 300 grams of soap’ .

It appears the Kremlin has high hopes for North Korea’s involvement in the war against Ukraine.
