Lithuania’s Defense Minister, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, said that Russia has redeployed troops from Kaliningrad to reinforce its forces in Ukraine’s Kursk region.  The minister revealed the information during the 10th Kyiv Security Forum for Youth.

“We’re closely monitoring Russian forces [bases] in Kaliningrad, and it’s practically empty. Why? Because they’ve pulled troops out of the Kaliningrad region, and they’re now fighting in Ukraine. Russian troops are also engaged in combat in Russia’s Kursk region against Ukrainian forces,” he explained.

Kasčiūnas argued that the troops redeployment can impact Lithuania’s security. “Just a few months ago, they discussed militarizing Kaliningrad. This shift is a direct result of Ukraine’s fight, which is dismantling Russia’s war machine, pushing them out of other regions, and blocking any potential scenarios that would pose a threat to us. Your struggle is helping us secure our own future,” added the Lithuanian defense minister.
