Ukrainian defense minister Rustem Umerov said on Wendesday that over 62,000 Ukrainian servicemembers have received training across EU countries since October 2022. It is part of the EUMAM Military Assistance Mission, which will see this number reach 75,000 by the end of 2024.
Umerov thanked EU ambassadors for extending the mission’s mandate for an additional two years. He also urged Ukraine’s allies to invest directly in the country’s defense sector, arguing that Kyiv is ready to sign long-term contracts and establish joint production facilities for drones, long-range systems, and ammunition.
“We anticipate a new €1.9 billion aid package funded by frozen Russian assets — funds we urgently need. We also hope that partners will allocate €6 billion from the European Peace Facility to strengthen Ukrainian forces on the frontlines,” added the minister.
