Ukrainian MP complains about cases when men are called up with HIV or tuberculosis,

“Servant of the People” MP  Oleksandr Fediyenko voiced his concernt over the latest directive No. 402 by Ukraine’s defense ministry tha appears to have allowed recruitment offices to conscript men with serious medical conditions.

The lawmaker the directive left many confused with some military and recruitment officials calling it “sheer nonsense.” He cited recent cases of individuals who were mobilized with HIV, active tuberculosis, deafness, and intellectual disabilities, including speech impediment.

The MP urged the government to smooth out the directive requirments to ensure it will not impact employees at critical enterprises, complaining that recruitment office raids could leave many of them understaffed.

Fediyenko mentioned that recruitment centers have already contacted some executives of unnamed businesses warning their workers should expect calls for service after many of their professional exemptions expire on November 14.

Fediyenko added that some employees at critical facilities, including a grain elevator and defense-related companies, have already been mobilized  The active mobilization campaign makes employers look for ways to protect their personnnel to keep their businesses afloat.

The MP suggested that the government extend exemptions during inspection periods to prevent disruptions at essential enterprises.
