Ukraine’s military intelligence, GUR, issued a statement on Wednesday, trying to play down the claims Russia is going to launch a ‘massive attack” on Ukraine in the upcoming hours. GUR said the alarming reports are “part of an information-psychological attack” by Russia.
“This message is a fake, designed as part of Russia’s psychological warfare against Ukrainians,” the intelligence agency stated, urging people to rely only on verified information from official sources.
It also argued the message warning about the possible attack contains grammatical mistakes that are “typical of Russian disinformation campaigns”.
“We urge vigilance and resilience. Always heed air raid warnings—safety comes first. However, avoid succumbing to panic,” the statement added.
The false messages flooded social media soon after it was announced that several foreign embassies in Kyiv—namely those of the U.S., Spain, Italy, and Greece—were going to take caution and not work on November 20 due to a heightened threat of airstrikes.
