The ongoing war has taken a grim toll on Ukraine’s cultural and media communities, with 135 artists and 93 journalists killed since Feb.24,2022, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture .
“These figures are not just statistics but a poignant reminder of the tragic chapters in our history,” the ministry said in its statement Thusday. In a statement issued on Thusday, the ministry compared the loss to the situation with “Executed Renaissance’ artists and writes in 1930s when Ukraine suffered Stalin’s purges.
The ministry paid a solemt tribute to those whose lives were cut short in the violent war:

It also revealed that the Russian onslaught also took lives of seven foreign journalists who worked alongside Ukrainian fellow workers covering the tragic events of the ongoing war.
The ministry condemned Russia’s crimes against journalists and media outlets, describing them as a grave threat to freedom of speech and information security.
“These actions undermine democratic values and fundamental human rights,” the statement declared.
