158,000 cases of HIV registered in Ukraine, – health ministry

Today is World AIDS Day designated on December 1 every year since 1988. About 40.4 million people died from this disease in the world.

As reported by Ukraine’s health ministry, 158,803 cases of HIV infection have been registered in the country, of which 9,769 – in 2023.

Since 1981, which is considered the beginning of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, humanity has learned to effectively prevent infection and invented drugs that allow HIV-infected people to live full lives. However, people continue to get infected and die from this disease.

Last year, AIDS claimed 630,000 lives, and more than 1 million people became infected with HIV. In Ukraine, 1,293 people died of AIDS in 2022, and 1,198 in 2023 (as of November 1).
