59% Ukrainians believe democratic system is more important than a strong leader, – poll

According to the results of a poll conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, 59% of Ukrainians believe that a democratic system is more important to the country than a strong leader.
In July 2022, 58% of respondents answered that ‘a strong leader is more important to Ukraine now than a democratic system’ and 27% answered about the priority of a democratic system.
However, already in December 2023, the majority of Ukrainians (59%) answered that a democratic system is more important to Ukraine. The share of those who believed that it is more important for Ukraine to have a strong leader is 32%.
As for the assessment of the level of democracy in Ukraine, in February 2024, the majority of respondents (57%) answered that Ukraine is currently more or less democratic.
Instead, only 14% answered that Ukraine is somewhat or completely dictatorial. However, 27% of respondents believe that Ukraine is both a dictatorial and a democratic country at the same time.
