Advisor to strategic industries minister killed in a car crash

Yaroslav Oliinyk, an advisor to Ukraine’s Minister for Strategic Industries, has tragically died in a car accident on Sunday. The accident also took a life of Oliinyk’s wife who was traveling with him.  Revealing the tragic news on social media, deputy minster Hanna Hvozdiar paid a tribute to the the man, calling his death a ‘tremendous loss’.

“Yaroslav was a sincere and cheerful person who dedicated his tragically short life to fighting our enemy. This is a tremendous loss for all of us. Loki was my first colleague at the ministry, and we learned much from each other. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Thank you for your service to our nation,” wrote Ddputy minister Hanna Hvozdiar in tribute.

Background

Yaroslav Oliinyk joined Ukraine’s armed forces in 2017, serving in the “Aerial Reconnaissance” unit as a drone operator. Called “Loki” by his fellow soldiers, he took part in the Kharkiv counteroffensive, helping to liberate Kupiansk.

He also worked with the “Come Back Alive” charity foundation, giving trainings to drone operators.
