Despite the frequent Russian strikes, the mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov claims that neither the authorities nor the military currently see the need to evacuate residents from the city.
He noted that the evacuation is already taking place in the region and many people are coming to Kharkiv from the frontline areas.
Currently, about 1.3 million people live in the city, and, according to the mayor, there is no reason to evacuate yet.
‘So far, neither we nor the military see any reason to evacuate from Kharkiv. This is part of the Russian psychological operation to intimidate and make the townspeople nervous,’ Terekhov stated.
The mayor admitted that Russia is now using new types of munitions to reach its goal. He also noted that the destruction of the energy infrastructure is significant, but the unity of the city residents gives reason to believe that Kharkiv will withstand even the most difficult times.
