During the offensive in Kharkiv region, the Russian military captured civilian residents near the town of Vovchansk.
The civilians have been held captive for some time. According to the investigation, the civilian residents were forcibly detained and have been kept in the basement since May 11.
The prosecutor office reported that several people managed to escape and reach the Ukraine-controlled territory.
During their stay in the basement, they heard the conversations of Russian servicemen.
They talked about the possible shooting of the civilian population. These actions of the Russian army are a direct violation of the Geneva Convention, to which Ukraine and the Russian Federation are parties. The prosecutor office started an investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war.
