Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, is dealing with a spike in COVID-19 cases, according to the Kyiv City State Administration.  Valentina Ginzburg, city health department director is worried that the Covid cases are rising among the children.

“As of July 1, there were twenty patients with a COVID-19 diagnosis and one suspected case in the city’s medical facilities. This morning, that number has risen to 73. On average, around 20 people are being admitted to hospitals daily. Hospitalizations occur in severe cases, and unfortunately, among these serious cases are 18 children,” Ginzburg stated.

In July, Kyiv hospitals have reported about 900 new cases, it is 4.5 times more compared to June, said Ginzburg. Since the beginning of the year, 52 people have died in the capital from COVID-19 complications.

The chief medical officer emphasized the importance of the preemptive measures.

“The protocol should be as follows: if you fall ill, stay home, contact a doctor, get tested, and strictly follow all recommendations until full recovery,” Ginzburg stressed.
