Director of NABU dismisses deputy Gizo Uglava over ‘ethical behavior’ issues

On Tuesday, National Anti-Corruption Bureau director Semen Kryvonos, has dismissed his deputy Deputy, Gizo Uglava, citing disciplinary violations. The dismissal was prompted by Uglava’s “breach of the civil servant’s oath, ethical behavior standards, and laws, including the “Law on Civil Service” and the NABU Employee Code of Ethics”.
An internal investigation found that Uglava was “discrediting” a bureau employee who had previously reported information leaks. According to Kryvonos, such actions sparked fears within the team of detectives over possible reprecussions for “whistleblowing activities”, which is seen as a clear violation of ethical standards.
Following the bitter news, exiting official said he plans to prove his innocence in court.
“Servant of the People” MP Anastasii Radina voiced her doubts that the departure of Uglava can “solve all of NABU’s issues”. She emphasized the need for an independent audit of the bureau, which is expected to begin soon.
