On October 10th, drones targeted the Russian military airfield “Khanskaya” in Adygea. Local residents swiftly took to social media, reporting the buzzing sounds of drones and loud explosions, while regional authorities, unsurprisingly, stayed silent at first, offering no immediate details.

The airfield serves as the base for the 272nd Training Aviation Regiment, part of the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation School. The regiment, awarded the Orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov, plays a vital role in Russia’s pilot training operations.

NASA’s fire monitoring system detected a blaze breaking out near the airfield following the drone attack.

Although officials initially downplayed the situation, the Adygea governor eventually confirmed the drone strike, arguing there were no casualties or injuries. Firefighters rushed to contain the flames, and the nearby village of Rodnikovy saw its residents evacuated as a precaution.

It was later revealed that the fire had engulfed a fuel and lubricant storage facility near the airfield. Some reports suggest that these could be fuel reserves for aircraft or even a stockpile of aviation bombs, making the situation even more explosive.
