Ukraine’s Service of Ukraine, the SBU, has said on Tuesday they have detained a retired military officer from Mykolaiv region who was recruited by the Russian intelligence to help enemy missile and drone strikes on Odesa and Mykolaiv.

The suspect caught the eye of the FSB operatives during his pre-war travels to Russia.  He eagerly agreed to cooperate after he was promised financial rewards and relocation to Russia.

The SBU said he was snooping on Ukrainian Defense Force locations that were later used for kamikaze drone and missile attacks.

The suspect also tried to recruit more spies among his former enforcement acquaintances.

The SBU arrested him at his residence where they also seized  SIM cards and two mobile phones used for covert communication with his Russian contacts.

The suspect has been charged with high treason under Article 111 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code.
