Former university lecturer arrested in Mykolaiv for coordinating Russian strikes

The Security Service of Ukraine said on Friday its operatives have detained an Russian agent in Mykolaiv who helped pinpointRussian attacks on his hometown.  The suspect who turned out to be  a former university lecturer, was peeping on Ukrainian troops by installing spy cameras in his own apartment.

According to the SBU, the man caught the attention of Russian intelligence by posting anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels. He was later remotely recruited and assigned a handler from occupied Donetsk.

His mission was to pinpoint airstrikes on Mykolaiv and identify Ukrainian air defense systems.

The SBU documented his activities and arrested him at his residence. During the raid , investigators seized his phone, camera, and flash drives containing evidence of his espionage.

The suspect has been charged under Article 111, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code for high treason under martial law. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
