In a operation targeting Russian spies, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has arrested a 36-year-old FSB agent in the Odessa region. The suspect, who resided in the Izmail district and often shared his pro-Russian sympathies in his comments on social media , had been recruited via Telegram and tasked with sabotaging Ukrainian Railways, Ukrzaliznytsia.
The agent, caught spying near one of the local conscription offices, was plotting to set fire to railway buildings and service vehicles, and disrupt relay cabinets. His mobile phone, seized by the SBU, contained evidence of his mission.
The FSB handlers had contacted the man through a Telegram encrypted messaging app, offering rewards for arsons in cryptocurrency payments.
Charged with treason, the agent now faces life imprisonment and asset confiscation. This arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat sabotage in Ukraine.
