The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine strongly condemned the deliberate destruction of Ukrainian grain by Polish protesters on the Ukrainian-Polish border. At the same time, the department reminded that Ukraine is grateful to those citizens of Poland who continue to help fight against the Russians.

‘We are closely monitoring the progress of the investigation into this incident, and we expect the participants to be quickly identified and punished. We understand when Polish farmers defend their interests in a civilized way. However, this case of destruction of Ukrainian wheat has nothing to do with peaceful protests from either a legal or a moral point of view,’ the statement says.

The stressed that for two years since the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian farmers have been working under constant enemy fire, suffering huge losses, obtaining grain “extremely hard and sometimes at the cost of their lives”.

The Ministry of Agriculture invited Polish farmers to Ukraine to see for themselves the conditions under which four million small farmers are currently working.

‘We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the people of Poland who helped and continue to help the Ukrainian people in this difficult time for us. Separately, we would like to note that we are absolutely sure that such cases will not be able to affect our joint struggle and the great support of the Polish people, which we have felt for 2 years in the war against the Russian invaders’ the statement concludes.

On February 11, at the Yahodyn-Dorogusk checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Polish border, Polish protesters partially scattered grain from Ukrainian trucks on the ground. A video recording of the event that took place at the checkpoint is available on social networks.
