Ukraine’s security agency said it has detained a 20-year-old Kyiv resident who plotted to kill a Ukrainian military officer on Russia’s GRU orders.
Initially recruited by Russian handlers to set fire to cars of Ukrainian servicemen, the suspect was later tasked to kill a Ukrainian military officer. He was caught while trying to set up a surveillance camera near the residence of the officer whose name was not disclosed.
A law-enforcement raid of the suspect’s home found flammable materials he used for arson attacks and a mobile phone containing evidence of his criminal activities.
The suspect faces sabotage charges under Art.114 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code which carries the penalty of up to eight years in prison.
