Kyiv’s air alert on August 26 becomes longest of 2024

As Russian launched a barrage of missiles and drone targeting Ukrainian cities on Monday, the air raid alert in Kyiv  lasted for 7 hours and 46 minutes, marking it as the longest air alert of 2024.

The alert in Kyiv began at 05:57 am and was called off at 1:43 pm. During this extended period, Russian forces launched missiles targeting the Kyiv hydro power plant.  The city authorities claim  there is no imminent threat of a dam breach.

The previous longest air alert lasted 7 hours and 14 minutes on July 31, 2024.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky described the August 26 attack as one of the largest to date, involving over a hundred missiles of various types and approximately a hundred Shahed drones. The assault targeted primarily critical civilian infrastructure across the country.

Five armored vehicles “Kozak” have received a new mission – thanks to the support of Metinvest, they have been upgraded to full-fledged command and staff vehicles. These upgraded vehicles are now operating on the front line.

In just 1.5 months, Ukrainian specialists have created an innovative protective shell for the control modules of anti-aircraft missile systems (AMS) Patriot and Iris-T SLM. This development was another step in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, aimed at protecting key elements of the air defense system from debris damage.
